Default Adjusting the truss rod

I've decided to sell my Taylor 214 ce-N and the truss needs to be tightened. I removed the cover on the truss rod adjustment and got out my trusty ratchet set, but encountered a problem. The space around the nut is quite minimal and nothing I have to adjust it fits around the nut.

It's not a matter of the ratchet not fitting; it's the socket itself that won't fit onto the nut given the small amount of room that's around it.

Has anyone encountered this? I've e-mailed the Taylor Guitar folks to ask if it requires a specialized tool, but it's the holiday weekend. I might not hear back for days. Thanks.

I use a nut driver.... I don't remember what size it takes. 1/4" maybe?

I bought tiny ratchet and box set for the sole purpose of guitar setup.

In Canada, we have metric system (milimeters) while US guitar makers are still in inches : I sometimes had to file a spare nut to make it fit on some guitars.

From ‘Support’ on the Taylor website...

”Strings should be tuned to how you play the guitar (standard or alternate tuning) while adjusting the truss rod. You'll need a 1/4" thin walled nut driver to make the adjustment.

I have not bought a new Taylor in a while, but every Taylor I have ever owned came with a little 1/4" socket wrench to adjust the truss rod.

Taylor stopped providing truss rod tools several years ago (5-6?). I think there was a rash of ham-handed adjustments / and customer complaints. But I called CS and convinced them that I was competent to make the adjustment without destroying the guitar. They sent me a new one to replace the one in my guitar case that TSA stole during a trip. I chose that word deliberately - there was no reason to take it out of a case that was checked.

You should be able to get a thin wall socket most places that have a decent selection of tools.

I think they stopped doing that a couple years ago. I was able to shame the dealer I bought mine from into throwing one in.

These are similar to the ones that used to come with every Taylor. It would be worth it to have one on hand for occasional adjustments.

Default Search on eBay...

...for Taylor truss rod wrench. You can get one for couple of pounds.

Default Thanks all

...for the responses.

I've bought two new Taylors in the last 3 years and they don't come with the tools anymore.

Stewmac looks like a sound solution.

Any universal 1/4" bit driver will fit perfectly. I used to use it before getting original Taylor wrench.
