Question What is the genre of this song?

Hey all,
I've been trying to learn this song in fingerstyle.
Always wondered what it's genre is.
Can someone help me out.
Thanks in advance

In my local record shop, it would be filed under ' World Music ', but to me it's a mixture of classical, opera, and pop music. Maybe call it Clop-Pop ?

So isn't there a specific genre? :/ I immediately fell in love with the song and now looking to learn more songs like that. However I cannot find any other similar material as I cannot search for it's genre.

It's very difficult to be specific because it really does incorporate a mixture of genres. Try searching, and listening to the back catalogue relating to this artist. Research who he is and where his influences came from, there must be more information out there. Look for interviews he has done, and maybe some fan-based websites, that kind of thing. If he has no searchable history, try contacting him by e-mail directly, and ask him. If he is an up-and-coming artist I'm sure he would be willing to share such information.
I'll listen again and see if I can identify some clues as to where his roots are.

I'd say "Ballard" and leave it at that. It also reminds me of old Enya stuff, so "New Age" might fit as well.

I like doing guitar arrangements off piano stuff, they can work out well when the rhythm chords are easy to pick out. This song seems to have basic verse chorus type structure and on guitar you have the chance to simplify out some of the nearly bombastic drama the song has down to it's nice melody and emotion. Good luck with it!

I think I'd agree. When I listened to the tune I could imagine Andrea Bocelli singing it. It did have both pop and light operatic aspects.

But I don't think I like the name Clop-Pop which sounds too much like clap-trap. Maybe pOpera?

I couldn't understand a word he said, but, I would say it is a classical love song.

To me, it sounds like the Hindi version of something Celine Dion would sing. Maybe "Bollypop?"

It doesn't sound like acoustic guitar music so why the query here?

Thank you Richard. I will see if it's possible. However I did some background search and it seems nobody knows who the artist is. Not a single clue is there. It's just a video on youtube. Mysterious eh?
Anyways thank you so much for the responses! Been highly helpful

I've already told you it is Sri Lankan music (Sinhalese) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_...Recorded_music

The chords are available online

My wife, who is somewhat of an expert on music, said it is "pop classic".

Catchy lyrics, but the hook is weak.
