Switchcraft and Neutrik each make 'silent' 1/4 plugs that you could easily use to switch out the on the guitar end of your current cable. Planet Waves and D'addario also sell full cables with this capacity. I like that the Neutrik ends have a retracting sleeve on the cable that does this automatically when you unplug. The Planet Waves cable has a switch (that I'm certain I would forget to press before unplugging!).

I'd install a K&K and be done with it.

Kill switch does not work. Need to remove the jack from the guitar for long breaks. I use cables with Neutrik "silent" jacks that don't make noise. Keep in mind this is the case for any "active" pickup system.
Regarding EQ, there are 9 different mics to choose from. If you don't like the bass, chose one of the small condenser models. Also, there is a three band EQ on the guitar. Lastly, make sure you are using less than 50% image if you play hard or hear too much mic effect. Lastly, the Fishman systems are designed to be used with lithium 9v (non-rechargeable) batteries, not standard alkaline. You get 2x the usage time and the battery light is calibrated for that type of battery. I am getting about 40 hours of plugged in use per 9V. https://www.amazon.com/Energizer-Ult...ate+lithium+9v I also use passive K&K pickups and they are great. But, they are NO substitute for my Fishman Aura F1 plus in the HD28E retro. The retro sounds amazing and way more realistic than any K&K I have used. The folks who are, reflexively, suggesting you ditch the Aura may not have used this specific system. It is presently the most advanced on-board system on the market. That might not be your thing, but it doesn't mean that you should give up on it. Especially, if you otherwise love the guitar. Try the above ($13) suggestions before giving up on a $3000 investment.

Either that or consider a ToneDexter that might get your factory pickup to put out something a lot closer to the acoustic sound you love so much. Louis |

I change batteries in my gigging guitars every other string change. I don't throw them out, but use them in less critical applications until they finally die.

This. I spent 2 hours last night with guitar plugged in and playing with settings and could not find a tone I liked. Conversely my D18 with K&K through the platinum sounds amazing. I can't afford to have a £2000 spare guitar so once last leg of gigs done next week it's on the market. Gonna buy another 00018 and put in a K&K. Thanks all as ever for your advice.
