Here is a good example of the tonal differences of smaller guitars. In this video, you hear both a 000 and a 00 made by the same builder.

(Raising hand excitedly from back of room!)
Yes, yes, been there done that...and will probably repeat the process... I bought a Guild F47R in hopes that the dread-depth body would help, but I guess I am just a dread man...at least if I am the one playing it. OOO's, OM's and Auditoriums (as the F47R was) sound great to me when I am across the room and someone else is playing, but for me on the couch or edge of the bed I need the dread vibrating my chest. I am so unworthy... |

My mom's old Yairi FY40B is a guitar I'll being to my grave, but for sentimental reasons. It's a fingerstyle guitar and I'm the world's worst fingerstylist. I like to really dig in with a pick, and the Yairi takes on an almost cardboard sound when I do. I'm going to keep experimenting with different strings, but I don't suspect I'll ever be truly happy with the sound. My dreads love to be dug into so they get played more.

It really depends on the style of music you play and how you play it. If you’re used to full 3D projection by strumming with a pick, will a smaller sized budget guitar fill that role? Not by a long shot.

I have a 12 fret one, a VS-12, best guitar I've played, period. Tony makes both 12 fret and 14 fret versions. https://yamamotoguitar.com/models/ Scroll down a bit to it.
