I have a design that I call a “shadow bridge” to address the very problem you are inquiring about. It uses an additional piece of wood laminated to the base of the bridge and slighter larger in circumference increasing the gluing surface area to the top without adding a significant amount of mass. The “shadow” base is mechanically pinned vertically to the base of the pyramid bridge increasing gluing surfaces and mechanical connections of the “shadow” to the bridge base and also pinned to the top as well. The vertical pins mechanically resist shear on the glue joint as well. I’ll try to dig up some pictures.
It’s pictured in the 2nd row in the link below. https://mcknightguitars.com/more-inf...ry-misc-items/ Another picture of the shadow bridge on the “Black Knight” https://mcknightguitars.com/gallery/4/ Last edited by Tim McKnight; 11-19-2023 at 06:20 PM. |

Nice, Tim!
This seems like an excellent idea to me!
I too love the look of a nice pyramid bridge. Paul

Sorry but I can’t find any pictures Juston. It’s not rocket science. 2 Wood dowel pins go up through the bottom into, but not through, the center of the pyramids then through the shadow, through the top and bridge plate. It’s a very robust mechanical connection.
