Larrivee OO-03 custom build
Hi,I put this out there already but thought I 'd ask here . I am having a Larrivee OO-03 built a little different from the standard 12 fret model. This one will be a 14 fret to the body cutaway, with a sunburst . It seems on the Larrivee forum that most people prefer the 12 fret model and are wondering why I would want a 14 fret . they also say it won't be the same as the 12 fret job. anybody have any thoughts on this ? Did I make a mistake ? thanks.

(I happen to only own 14 fret guitars, so that's my bias.)
That sounds like a fantastic guitar. Larrivee is certainly capable of making that a special instrument. My partner has an Irvin Parlor (more like an 0) with 14 frets, 25.4 scale, cutaway - and it *sings*. I see no downside.

We all want a good sound and comfort when we play:
• The 12 fret neck means having the neck slightly closer to the player's body and some players believe this this adds to the comfort of playing. • For others, my understanding is that the location of the bridge further into the lower bout on at least some 12 fret models can enhance the bass. Luthiers please correct me if I have this wrong. There may also be a bit of folklore involved, along the lines of “(insert name of great guitar player) plays a 12 fret model so it must be the best”. Larrivee make great guitars with all sort of neck designs. My 2 cents is ignore the 12 fret zealots, get what you want and enjoy it! |
