Enjoying a cigar with Kathy would be really special. Sure hope we can make that happen!

Cheers, Steve
When Jason sent me the pics he said if I didn't like he would make another. Didn't like it??????? I told him no way would I mess with perfection.

Thank you Fred! Nice of you to say.

We now move into the bending and lamination of the sides. Did I mention I love Jason's MDW shape?

A most incredible set of ABW.

Top is also braced and voiced. Here we are looking thru the sound hole to the art deco work on the back. Once the box is together, these will not be seen together again.

I hear we are looking at a big push this weekend. Who knows what Monday will bring!!!

Fantastic. So nice to see someone of Jason's talents labeling everything like that. I would have to do that, top, bottom, inside, outside, haha.

The rosette looks better every time I see it.

BTW: Kathy is in, should make for a great picture. I see at least 3 copies for framing!

The deco looks like one of Jason’s best yet! This box is going to be unprecedented.

Thanks! Glad you are thinking that way!

Jason admits, construction of the rim is one of his least favorite parts of the build but I asked him to show us those things done to facilitate the Manzer wedge.

Sides are laminated and cut to fit into the mold.

The top rim is radiused and merged.

Jason uses a router with a saw blade to cut the sides to size. The back of the rim is radiused to the same dome intended for the back.

Close up of saw blade.

Side material is cut away at the desired height.

Normal depth body before wedge.

Shim the treble side on a radiused dish.

Draw a line around the rim which creates a 1/2” taper on the bass side.

Taper of the wedge.

Hand plane to remove excess material.

Depth from the rim on the bass side.

1/2" more on the treble side.

Wet the kerfing and clamp it to the outside of the rim so it gets used to the shape to minimize breaking. (I think Jason may have as many clamps as he has chisels!)

Because of the dome of the back and the Manzer wedge, the kerfing is being asked to twist and rotate more than normal so Jason kerfs both sides to allow more flexibility.

Glue the kerfing in and sand flush to radius. Begin clean up of rim.

The wood, the rosette, the shape, the precision, knowing that it is a Kostal!!! That is going to be a truly spectacular guitar. Makes me want to go outside and howl. Very happy for you Dennis, and jealous. When I have commissions, I should just ask you to decide everything...or maybe I should hang around and wait for you to get bored of your collection. Ha! Unlikely! It seems that every commission you undertake is a masterpiece. Play them joyfully!

Well, thank you Jamie! Very nice of you to say. My consulting fee is very low!

As Jason narrows in on closing the box, he profiles the back braces using a hand plane for the taper and a chisel for the profile.

Then the top is glued to the rim. Once glued to the rim, Jason spends about a day voicing it... removing material from the braces to create the tap tone that he is looking for.

As the top is drying he seals the back with a few coats of shellac and adds the label. The inside of the top and rim are then shellaced as well. This doesn’t make the guitar impervious to moisture but is decreases the rate at which is absorbs it or loses it so musicians can travel to different parts of the world and not have the guitar change too much in a few days time.

Next the back is glued on slightly oversized and once it has dried the excess wood is routed off and a completed body is now present.

Ready to route the binding channels.

Wow! With the binding the body is beautylicious!

This Coco is going to set things off once the finish is applied.

Stunning. Jason’s guitar’s are phenomenal but this one looks exceptional even by his high standards. Can’t wait to find out what it sounds like

I agree 100%. Dennis this is just coming out to be spectacular. I am in love with the back inlay and the rosette, and the ABW, and the binding and the top, etc. I even like how the shellac darkened up the back braces...I just love the beauty of wood and Jason is just accentuating that with his work.
