Default Tonewood Amp / you gotta check this out !

could only find one small thread on the forum for this... just heard of it today, watched a few videos, and had to pre-order one... it's going to make kitchen parties and strummin' on the couch that much more interesting !

http://www.tonewoodamp.com/

for $149, it's worth considering...

what do you guys think ? Al Di Meola thinks it's pretty cool... and ya gotta check out the quote from Janis Ian !

An interesting device. The site does not make clear, however, how the unit is installed. Mention is made of pickups being used but just how isn't explained. Also mentioned is the need for an "x-brace" but don't elaborate. If anyone has insights into the installation I'd be interested in hearing about it.

One more concern is that, depending how it's attached to the guitar's back, it might be damaging to a guitar with a nitrocellulose finish.

Seems like a gimmick to me. The kind of thing that would be fun for a day or two, then get boring. I like the sound of my guitar well enough. If I want effects, i can plug them in. But I prefer acoustic, without tricks.

I was curious about the same thing. Doesn't seem to be anywhere on their site or in any of their videos. It seems to be either through two magnetic strips attached to the back of the guitar, or an x brace attached to the inside of the guitar using four double sided stickers that will use the magnets to hold the device in place.

You can see the details and description on their kickstarter campain page about half way down.

There is a video on the site where they show how you install. There's a plastic "X" with legs that hold rare earth magnets at each corner. There is adhesive on the magnets. You stick the "X" onto the inside of the back of the guitar. There are then 2 strips that magnetically adhere to the back of the guitar, and the amp attaches to these 2 strips.

I donated to their kickstart campaign so I will be receiving one next month. I'll post a review.

Interesting. It seems a bit like an electronic variation of the old ASPRI clip-on. Making it electric means you can have more that just reverb effects. Could be a lot of fun to play with.

it's been a long wait, but it's finally here !... TWA was a Kickstarter project that came to life... it's always a bit unnerving investing in a start up, but boy am I glad I took a leap of faith... this device is in a league all it's own... check it out... www.tonewoodamp.com
installed and ready to play on my GS Mini ! it works well, even though the back on the mini is slightly arched... just gotta position it right.

I, too, have received my Tonewood Amp. A few hiccups, but any questions I had as to the performance and usefulness of this device are gone.

Simply, the Tonewood Amp is all it claims to be, and more. Not only does it have the expected 'Wow, that is way cool!' appeal, but the unit is wonderfully adaptable, both as a stand alone and direct box device. Installation is straightforward and simple. A few knob turns, and the guitar 'grows' in volume and effects-assisted presence. With nothing fake or contrived about it, the addition of the Tonewood Amp to my Goodall RCJ is now in an 'always on' status.

Really, folks, get yourself a Tonewood Amp when you can. Great device.
