My D-18 worked very well for me for decades, HOWEVER, the D-35 I bought, blew it away and now the D-18 is only used as a beater. I use the D-35 for any recording, sounds much better.

My D-35 also came with a Lyric which sounds just fine to me.

Do yourself a favor and try a D-35 with Polyweb strings on it.

Default Same thing happened to me...

over last Christmas. Headed down to Houston, TX for "window shopping" @ Rocking Robin. I had some money to (maybe) spend on a guitar. I didn't think I was going to find it in a Martin D18. It was hanging in their acoustic room towards the back of the store. It was a used one (2016), and it was competitively priced below their other acoustic guitars, including a Martin D41 "Turbo", Collings, Santa Cruz, and Gibson.
One strum was all it took, and it had the sound that kept me awake through Boxing Day (day after Christmas). I HAVE TO HAVE IT! Plus, the K&K passive pickup was the "icing on the cake".
I get all kinds of compliments on my Martin D18 everywhere I play it, including church, band rehearsals, and friends' houses...
The sound of a Martin is what I've been wanting all my life since I started playing guitar! NOW, my collection is complete. Fender, Gibson electrics, Martin and Taylor acoutics (electrics)! I'm happy!!
God Bless....
