Default CA Cargo: boomy/bassy...Normal?

I just picked up a used (raw finish) Composite Acoustics (CA) Cargo.
I haven't plugged it in yet, but unplugged I find it very boomy/bassy.
Is this normal with carbon fiber acoustics?
When I tap on the top it gives off a kind of boomy microphonic resonance, almost like I want to press a notch filter to make it go away...but it's unplugged.
I taped cardboard over the soundhole and it really helped control the boominess.

Is this the nature of carbon fiber guitars or the CA cargo in particular?

Also, Is the nut and fingerboard all one piece?
Is sawing it out the only way to remove it?

Thanx

The Cargo is incredibly ‘bassy’ especially for such a small and shallow guitar. Mine has a removable separate nut. After having numerous small guitars with very bright tone and no bass, I really love it, it kinda sounds like a mini dreadnaught.

I’ve owned an ‘08 Cargo (road tough finish) since new that year. I agree that it is a bit bassy (which I like) and boomy (which I don’t), but I bought it as a travel guitar which has turned out to be a couch/campfire guitar and so much more. For its small size, it’s a bit heavy, but I think that’s partly what gives it its tone which overall, is great for what it is. I’ll never get rid of it. My experience with other composite brands/models suggests that bassy and boomy aren’t really the norm. Each has its own voice.

Hi Twighlight

The nut comes off. It looks embedded because CA painted the necks after installing the nut.

graphtech.com can tell you which tusq nut to use.

There is also info on this forum and on Youtube about installing the zero glide version

I've been using Martin 11.5/47 silk and steel which is more balanced for playing quietly at home (but I'll experiment again at the next string chance).

Cheers

I previously owned an Emerald X30 which I also described as "boomy." In the end, it was too boomy for my taste...
