Default Aloha OM in B/Webony Final Shots

This OM is headed for Hawaii. I’m giving serious thought into hand delivering it.

Top will be Engelmann Spruce, top wood that I think goes well with the back side wood. Neck will be untainted Maple with black stripes, Binding in Ebony, and other details TBD.

At least the back and sides are thinned and ready for the next stip.

Default Great minds think alike!

Just had to laugh when I opened up this thread. Because here’s what I started today (below). I tested the Engelmann top and looked for the Ebony bindings as well. At least this is a 00.

By the way, your set looks great, and you really should hand deliver it!

That is just two funny, TWO Kinnaid’s going, at the same time, with the same wood combinations. Who would have thunk it? I hope there isn’t any sides bets or any racing going on? I’ll be watching this thread for sure. BTW I want some of that “Webony” wood too you funny wabbits...

Nice John. I remember playing the b/w ebony you made for Mike. I can imagine how awesome this one will be. I look forward to checking in on progress.

Thanks Dennis. I remember the guitar you mentioned turned out pretty well. I’m glad you thought so too.

the inside blocks are fashioned out of a kind of shop made plywood. neck block is 3 plys of Spanish cedar and the tail block is 2 plys of Spanish cedar.
laminated blocks can be thinner because of the greatly reduced chance of splitting and the Spanish cedar is pretty darn light to begin with. trying to keep the weight down.

Default Hand bent

I have a nice LMI bending machine complete with silicon blanket. For some reason I gravitate to bending by hand these days. Granted its an electric iron which is not as old school as it could be. (In the winter I have bent over the flue pipe coming out of my wood burning stove.)

Anyway, sides are bent, cutaway is bent and its time to assemble these parts. I am hoping to get a miter joint on the edge of the cutaway. I like the way that gives the look of the sides flowing around an impossible bend, and if I cannot get that joint right I can always fall back on a piece of binding on the tip.

The cutaway joint turned out well enough not to need anything else.

structural considerations. Reinforcing the joint in the heel block
