Good question. I wonder if Laurent will chime in . . .

When I get there I'm making a beeline for Laurent's table! So psyched to try these guitars.

I believe Laurent's choice of finish is Epiphanes (sp?) or it was
last time i heard.

Have you ever wondered to yourself, "Gee, I wish I could compare a Brondel D-1 Brazilian to a Brondel D-1c koa. Also, I wish the comparison would throw his A-2 into the mix and, for good measure, a vintage Gibson J-50?"

Well, if you have wondered that, this is the video for you.

Fun stuff and a very well done video. To my ears: the Brazilian was tops and all of LB’s guitars sounded better than the Gibson. Laurent is an accomplished player.

Koa D-1 for me between the two! I like the bump in the mids.

A pleasure to hear Laurent play. And, as usual, extraordinary guitars.

I am with you Juston in that I prefer the Koa. What most people would refer to as "shimmer" in Braz strikes me as strident as is the case here.

To each their own,

Steve

They are all very fine sounding guitars, even the old Gibson! My favorite in this sample was the Braz D-1 but I suspect that in my own hands I would like the cutaway better - and under my arm I would like A-2 best of all!

The A-2 shouldn't be discounted as a fantastic all arounder. It may seem small by comparison to the other guitars, but Laurent's A-2 in general is one of the most balanced OM guitars I've ever heard. He manages to get a pretty deep bass out of this design. It is by far his most popular. It is by no means a niche guitar.

That being said, I'm hoping to get my hands on a D-1. I have a build coming up very soon and I'm deciding between an A-1 and a D-1.

I have one of LB's Brazilian B2s and that is a very full sounding guitar. It is the 12 fret model. If you are ok with 12 fretters you may want to take a look.

Yes, I love 12 fret guitars! In this case, I'm definitely going for a 14 fret of some denomination, however. The goal is to get a bit more heft than I can get out of my A-2c, which has great lows but is still an OM. The question for me will be whether the A-1 is enough of a step up or if the D-1 is more what's in my head. I also don't want to have too much overlap in my guitars, so there's something appealing about going with a D-1 from that perspective.
