you know like the active/passive switch on the m80. ? And does plugging it in
negate the wireless aspect or could they both be run simultaneously??
Is The flatter response due to pole piece adjustment..
Also this is an unbalanced input . Have you tried plugging it into a di or preamp with xlr to a board.?

There is an on/off switch that you have to stick your finger into the soundhole to reach, but it is easy to do.

Yes, you can use it both wired and wireless simultaneously.

There is an included Allen key to adjust pole piece height. So far it sounds good as it comes.

The output levels from both the wired and wireless outs sound the same.

It sounds good plugged straight into a board. It’s just like a regular active acoustic guitar preamp out. You can use it with or without a directbox.

I just used this at an open mic last night, both with myself and several other people playing. It sounded very good.

Does the battery have to be charged to use it plugged in?

thanks for the review! this is a real potential m80 competitor.. at least it looks that way!

only issue is the 4 hour battery life.. I can imagine some people needing more than that.. I for one would like to see at least 6 to 7 hours of usage time per charge.

This seems like it would be an excellent solution for those out there looking for a pickup system that can be installed without drilling out their end pin holes. Thanks for taking the time to buy and review!

I would recommend installing the endpin plug as well. I would be afraid to not have a wired option as a backup at a gig.

I believe so, though I would expect that it would work with far less of a charge.

if this is bluetooth then only one person in the
band can use one . Otherwise you would interfere
correct?
With other wireless units you can change channels?

I don’t believe it is in any way Bluetooth. There is no discernible latency (which all Bluetooth devices have).

Are there any channel freq switches on it.?
so more than one person in the room can
use one. I was reading some comments on
that fb page and they were talking bluetooth.
But it was just comments so maybe not.
Most of this wireless stuff is 2.4 ghz . like cordless
phones.
I wasn't too impressed with the sound of this pup in that
facebook video. Hope it was just his eq and not this pup.

Default Skysonic Wireless Guitar Pickup

I sent a list of questions to the moderator of their Facebook web page. I asked a bunch of questions including yours.

The sound I am getting is like what you hear on the Thai YouTube review I posted earlier. I haven’t heard the Mag Mic or the Fishman Rare Earth Blend, but I imagine it is a similar sound to those products. It is very good.

The pickup and mic are controlled with separate volume controls. The mic doesn’t go nearly as loud as the magnetic pickup. I’m pretty happy with them both all the way up. To get more mic than that you would have to scale the magnetic pickup sound back.

I did end up adjusting the pole pieces a bit. I certainly prefer the sound of this to my LR Baggs M80, but that is a taste thing.

There is a button labeled “catch” that I believe increments channels. That is one of the questions I asked through Facebook Messenger.

One negative is that both the receiver instantly turn on when you press the power button on the receiver or the standby button on the pickup. Turning it off requires a three second push. This is fine on the pickup, but on the receiver it is likely that the button might be accidentally touched in transit if it is loosely packed. This would turn it on, and it would stay on because it would need a three second push to turn it off. I can easily imagine getting to a gig only to find the receiver was turned on and the battery is drained. If you hadn’t purchased and installed an end pin audio cable assembly, you would be out of luck trying to play a gig in this likely scenario. You would have to use a mic on the guitar. It would be much better if turning on required a 3 second press as well.

I found a little portable hard drive case with an elastic strap in it which is designed to keep the hard drive in place. This is a good fit for the reciever and will keep the power button safe from accidental presses when I transport it.

thanks LK I always find your reviews in depth and
informative. I liked the sound of this on that thai video.
I've gone ahead and ordered one of these. waiting patiently.
I have been swapping out an m80 and a sunrise in my martin .
so the jack is already in place. if it sounds
like the video it could potentially replace
some outboard gear i use currently.
Did you figure out the distortion issue?

The distortion was just with that one guy who was strumming really hard. I haven’t heard a trace of it since.

I like it without outboard gear. I usually try to add a bit of body resonance effect and cut 200Hz. The mic takes the place of the body resonance effect and I don’t really need the 200Hz cut.
