Default Bandlab of Singapore is releasing Cakewalk & Sonar

Bandlab of Singapore has a free download of Cakewalk.

PRESS RELEASE

BANDLAB-CAKEWALK PAGE

I use Presonus right now. But I'm interested in branching out.
I already half-way understand the Cake/Sonar GUI already.

Does anyone have any experience w/ Bandlab's version of the software?

Thanks

Thumbs up

I don't know if this is all the original version of sonar, i used it up to sonar 7 then gave up with the original version as there seemed to be that many bugs and gremlins in there that it was like playing computers rather than making music. I switched to presonus studio one and it just worked, i think i had more complete musical tracks in a month than i ever managed to get with cakewalk in 7 years. Perhaps this is a different version or something?

This happened a couple of months ago. I read about it at homerecording.com. I didn't investigate because I'm happy with Reaper. There was something about the new Sonar, though - maybe you can't run 3rd party VSTs? Not sure what it was.

Interesting. I just took a look. It will run third party VSTs but does not include any.

Note to Editor
Cakewalk by BandLab is a streamlined version of SONAR Platinum – and certain third party products and content bundles will no longer be included. Existing users who have already purchased bundles or individual third party products and plug-ins can still use those products with Cakewalk by BandLab…Any bundled or independently purchased plug-ins or add-ons that worked with SONAR will integrate with Cakewalk by BandLab.

I think this happened in January 2018.

The Sonar version they offer (for free!!!) is the last one (Sonar X3 Platinum) Cakewalk sold before Gibson shut them down. Some internal plugins and previously-licensed plugins bundled with the product are no longer available.

Sonar is an extremely deep program, but like other deep programs (Cubase, Pro Tools, Logic) it has its own personality. You may or may not like it. However, for the price of free it won't break the bank.
