Jim, what’s your experience with Acustica Audio? I’ve heard good things but the website is utterly overwhelming. Any specific plugins you’d recommend?

My personal experience is very limited. I've grabbed their freebies but, honestly, I've hardly spent any time with any of them. However, their reputation is excellent and I've seen people positively rave over them. I don't have a specific recommendation, sorry.

Sometimes the best upgrades we can make to our studios don't involve digital or analog processing of audio. Certainly, the first on that list would be bass traps and other room treatment, but another important upgrade is the chair in which we wind up spending many hours. For those looking to upgrade your seating situation, Herman Miller is running a 20% off sale this month.

Back in February, I started a thread about the Herman Miller Aeron Chair. It's easily the most comfortable and customizable office chair onto which I've ever plopped my butt. My Aeron is getting close to six years old and it still looks brand new. The only issue I've ever had with it was when an arm pad tore (a friend did it accidentally). When I called the Herman Miller Company to order a replacement, the person I spoke with told me the chair was still under warranty and that I should contact the store from which I made the purchase to get the replacement free of charge. The chair came with a 12 year warranty and it appears the company really does stand by that. I was very much surprised at how many fellow AGFers also have Aeron chairs and love theirs as much as I love mine.

I've never tried the Herman Miller Embody Chair but fellow poster Daniel Grenier just bought one and commented, "I was specifically after an Aeron following the glowing revues here. I did try the fully loaded Aeron for some time and it felt great. I then tried the Embody and promptly bought it. Who knew a chair could be so impressive!"

These chairs aren't cheap but there's no arguing with the comfort, the quality, or the company's commitment to stand behind their product. If you can swing the cost, your back and butt will thank you for many years.

Gullfoss from Sound Theory is on sale for 40% off. I don't own it but I've seen many people, whose judgment I respect, swear by it in the past year or so. There are some reviews on YouTube and every one I've seen has been mostly positive.

EDIT: I posted this yesterday and today Wytse Gerichhausen just so happened to post an updated review on Gullfoss on his White Sea Studio YouTube channel, so I thought I'd post it. I suspect this plugin might be helpful for people recording in bad rooms. I've not used it but based on what I've seen of it, I think it might be helpful in those situations.

Sweetwater says their BF sales are on now. Looks like there might be some deals here because I think all those containers of stuff arrived to fill warehouses too late ...

I just did a quick comparison of a few prices against the price the item is selling elsewhere. Some of them are sales but some are the regular price made to look like a sale. That's not a specific allegation against Sweetwater as I think it's a bit of deception in which many large stores engage.

The GIK Acoustics Black Friday Sale has begun. All the traps in my room are from GIK. They make a quality product.

I just read that Rust from Acustica Audio is an especially good character EQ (versus surgical EQ) if you want to add some vintage color to your recordings. I was going to try it but realized I have plenty of those types of equalizers already.

Those who have shopped Black Friday for studio gear in the past...have you seen price breaks in recent years for mid & mid-upper level microphones? In the past week or two I saw 10% off Austrian Audio deals which came & went. There's also 10% off Pearlman & AEA, and discounts on some Lauten, etc.. Based on recent years should I expect more deals are coming? THX.

Sometimes, but with the mid-through-upper tier stuff I don't think it's been consistent from year to year.

It's still a little early so more deals should be expected. At this point, I think you can expect anything that goes on sale to stay on sale at least through Thanksgiving Day. You might want to bookmark some links of gear you're very interested in so you can do a quick check every day or two to see if something you want goes on sale.

Roswell mics are on sale for Black Friday. I've never used one but I know the Mini K47 has fans, including AGFers DupleMeter and Rudy4.

Baby Audio is offering up to 51% off on their plugins. I have no first hand experience with this company but their Smooth Operator plugin is interesting. The first reviews on it weren't great but the company was paying attention, fixed the issues, and the reviews since have been very good.

Use the code BABYFAMBF to get an extra 10% off the sale price.

Bad review...

Review after the fixes...
