DADGAD On Nylon
Tuning my crossover in DADGAD and exploring the territory. Can someone enthuse me with recommendations of artists/songs in this tuning on nylon strings?
Cheers! |

Well, how about Orkney tuning? CGDGCD?
Stephen Wake has an entire album in nylon. Here's one and a link to the play list. Scottish Lochs

+1 on Stephen Wake. All his recordings are either in DADGAD or CGDGCD tunings. His music is excellent and with enough practice some of it is doable. He is well worth checking out. He has an album of nylon string only guitar.

Pierre Bensusan....a contemporary master of DADGAD on acoustic guitar. I have one of his books, and am starting to play the pieces on my classical guitar....he has a newer book out as well...the first book has a lot of instructional material on the basics that he uses as the building blocks of his songs...super nice guy!

Find him on bandcamp. You can download most of his "cd's" and the tab to go with them. He used to have an offer to get a bunch of them in one big "compilation." I bought the following "CD's" and tab all at once a couple of years ago. Journey's End Ciuil Amiugh Scottish Lochs The Celtist Here's a link. Stephen Wake on BandCamp Below the "Buy Digital Album" there is a link to "Buy Digital Discography". You'll get all of the above and more for only US$38

Doug Young has some excellent resources—website lists his books. He has a recent alternate tunings course on Peghead National that includes DADGAD theory and tunes

I normally play steel string acoustic, often in dropped D. I used the CGDGBE tuning to play exactly one song, so decided to see what else it could be used for. I soon discovered how truly versatile it was, especially considering how radically the chord structures changed the tonal coloration. It was only a matter of time before I tried it on crossover, although I had not considered it previously because I thought the lowered 5th and 6th strings wouldn't sound good. I was wrong, of course! |
