John Denver
Any body fingerpick John Denver songs? If so, what would be the easiest one for a beginner fingerpicker to start with?

Probably Leaving on a Jet Plane. Maybe Sunshine on my Shoulders.

The very first song I ever taught myself was fingerpicking John Denver's My Sweet Lady. As a beginnner it is fun as it plays way up the neck, probably playing shapes you are not use to.

"For Baby, For Bobby" is pretty easy.

I'm sure there are others but here are a few. Some of these can either be strummed or fingerpicked. And some are easier than others but all are fun to play.
For Baby (For Bobbie) Leaving On A Jet Plane My Sweet Lady Take Me Home, Country Roads This Old Guitar Annie's Song Sunshine On My Shoulders Eagle and the Hawk Poems, Prayers, and Promises Darcy Farrow David

I've turned I'm Sorry into an instrumental. There are others that I want to render and I will as I come round to his music again. At the moment I have other artists I'm focusing on.
I walk down the D string intro (F#>E>Open) beginning with F#-Open G-Open B, down to E-Open G-Open B, down to Open D-Open G, then use a G, C and D progression. It's a progression that lends itself easily to the necessary coloring (lyric notes) for an instrumental. I don't use or write tab. Old school, I render all instrumentals by ear. |
