Default Iris Dement

So, I know she usually plays a Martin and all - but are there any other fans out there? Wow, I really like her music (especially some of the "b-side" and unreleased stuff). Most of the music is pretty much a straight 1-4-5 deal, but the lyrics are great.

You're right about the lyrics and a very unique voice too. Makes appearances with quite a few well known folks like John Prine, The Dirt Band and others. I like her track on the Will the Circle Be Unbroken III CD, Mama's Opry

Truth to tell, Iris was John Prine's protege'.

Yes, Iris is great.

I first heard "that voice" a few years ago in the movie and on the soundtrack CD for "Horse Whisperer".

I saw her live last August in Colorado in a great small venue. Just Iris, a grand piano, and a guitar (I don't recall what kind. it was not important)

She is a singer and songwriter. She can accompany herself on guitar, but, in my opinion, she is not a great guitarist. Does not need to be.

Very good on the piano. Added a lot of style and color to her songs.

She was so shy at the beginning. A bit of stage fright. But the audience made her feel welcome, and after a couple of songs, she felt better.

I've heard her on PBS and seen her on the Grand ole Opry.

Lots of genuine talent, genuine voice, songs from the heart. The real deal.
