Default Neil Young's signal chain

Does anyone know anything about Neil Young's acoustic guitar signal chain? I'm looking at the "Heart of Gold" DVD, and absolutely loving the tone of his Martins.

As I understand it, he has Trance Audio Amulet pickups in the guitars, but where do they go from there?

Don't overlook the microphone out in front of the guitar.

Great site, thanks for the link.

However, some of the guitar info is over 15 years old. Wonder if he hasn't upgraded his acoustic sound since then??

Notice he uses the past tense when talking about those FRAPs, not what he's doing today....

FRAP is no longer around. Trance Audio is basically the same pickup. It is my understanding he even had Trance Audio Lenses installed in Hank's old D-28. I would love to find out what preamps, D.I.'s, etc he is using. I can't imagine he's getting a whole lot of mileage from the microphone at concert volume with a full band.

Neil is still using FRAPS. Larry installs them directly in front of the saddle. One for the treble strings and one for the bass strings. Trance installs their lenses directly UNDER the saddle line. They are voiced for this installation. Fraps are different. I have two Fraps in my 83 Larrivee L09. I contacted Larry about installation and he was kind enough to help me out. You need to plug in while you`re installing. I use an adhesive called "Goop". Dow Corning 3145 is recommended as an adhesive. And very little movement will affect your tone BIG TIME!!! You have to listen carefully. I run mine through a D-Tar Solstice because of its high impedence inputs. It sounds incredible! It took me about 2 years of messing around with placement to get it right. That was with one Frap. If your using two...use Larry`s method!
