Not sure where you are arriving at those numbers; if MSRP of the custom Martin is north of $6k, he should expect 50% (minimum) of that on resale, unless it has features / wood that degrades it somewhat. I get more like $3k private sale.

It may take a bit of time to find a buyer who agrees with the custom shop specs, but that should be the bogey.

I've sold 3 CS Martins and never once had to go less than 50% of MSRP; one went for far more.
