Bose S1 Pro vs Pro Plus Consensus
Now that the dust has cleared somewhat on the new Bose S1 Pro Plus,.......
Was there ever a consensus that the new Pro Plus plays louder and/or sounds better/different than the original? |

They sound the same but I think the features of the Plus are worth the extra $$$.

Someone on the Bose Facebook group had mentioned that the preamps have more gain with the Pro+--any confirmation on this? Also, does the Bose Music app have phantom power for the Pro+ (as it does for the 8, 16, etc)?
I will probably upgrade my S1 Pro regardless--it has developed a hiss in channels 1 and 2 with the volume at or above noon (probably my fault more than anything; I have not taken care of it as well as I should have)--but those two things above would send me over the moon about the Pro+. |

When I tried one at Guitar Center they sounded the same to me. The EQ features were better on the new one, but it sounded the same flat. The new wireless is handy. But the package is $1000.
If you don't need more volume, then this is a pretty well thought out package. Otherwise, I might be inclined to spend that much money differently.

I just purchased a Pro+ after trying a Pro as an extension at a gig. I was very happy with the tone, volume, and dispersion.
From what I’ve read and heard in reviews is the Pro+ porting/turning offers slightly more Bass and the speaker configuration is altered. I’ve been playing it quite a bit at home (instrumental guitar). I also have a SA330 and Loudbox Mini. The Bose projects more bass and depth and presents the tone from my Octave Pedal better than those. I probably could have been fine with the Pro and like its controls better. My debate was between the pro, pro+, or to opt for the EV Everse8, but ultimately, felt the wider dispersion and performance of the Pro+ was better suited to my needs than the EV. I may get a wireless to use as an extension for my Fishman SA330 when needed. It could be handy at outdoor weddings.

Thanks to all for the observations. I have the S1 Pro, but it rarely gets used.
I find myself always reaching for my Pro8; since it sounds so much better and takes up a similar footprint. I was thinking if I could move closer to Pro8 sound quality, it may be worth a look for the lesser weight. It looks like it mainly comes down to features. I have recently added a regular gig at a bar where the Pro8 is overkill...which has been part of the impetus for the question. |

I have both an original S1 Pro and I just got the new S1 Pro +. I agree with Aaron (AeroUSA) that the additional features of the new S1 Pro + make it more desirable. I use the app a lot to adjust volume and other parameters. The myriad of Tonematch settings give the S1 Pro + a better sound to my ears since the S1 Pro only had one tone match setting via a switch. I actually did buy the XLR Wireless transmitter for the S1 Pro + and it has come in handy. But it does make a pricey affair.
I sometimes have issues if I try to send too strong of a signal to the S1 Pro or S1 Pro +. These small and light speakers can only project and move so much air. When the signal is too strong and it clips or bottoms out, it can be harsh. My takeaway is to simply use these within their sensible limits.

^^^ when I read “myriad of Tone Match settings” (Thank you ^^^) . I dug and found it. I tried it on a couple guitars I have that were close to the tone patches:
1.Takemine TC135C which is “similar” to the TC132SC in the patch list. Sounded very good. 2. Carvin AC275 which has a ribbon transducer that I suspect is similar to or an unbranded LR Baggs Element. I used the LR Baggs Element. Sounded good but was a tad heavy on Bass 3. Yamaha APX5NA gutted with LR Baggs installed. I use the flat EQ setting. This pickup with the mic piezo balance is really finicky. I wish they offered the full Anthem version for classical. Utility Full Range Flat. Sounded pretty good and revised workable amplified tone. On another note, I can not get my Samsung Tab8 to recognize the Bose. It’ll connect for media, but not to the app.
