Default New Genzler Acoustic amp

Genzler amplification release the Acoustic Array Pro that some have seen at NAMM:

Quote:
GENZLER® AMPLIFICATION is proud to announce the addition of our first acoustic instrument amplifier to our product line --- the Acoustic Array PRO. Building upon our heritage in innovative acoustic amplification design and build, the Acoustic Array PRO brings a fresh, advanced approach to acoustic amplification.

The AA-PRO offers a full featured preamp design with 2 identical channels, both with mic and instrument inputs, a unique Contour circuit, flexible EQ network, Digital Effects, a 150 watt / 300 watt Class D power amplifier platform, unique angled cabinet shape, bottom-mounted speaker stand adaptor and a sophisticated speaker system design.

What does Acoustic Array mean?
The focal point of this light-weight, compact combo is a speaker design engineered for acoustic instrument reproduction that is based upon our revolutionary Bass Array® format from our bass guitar cabinet designs. The AA-PRO speaker system features a specialized 10" woofer in a ported chamber along with the performance and pattern control of a proprietary line array column, which is mounted forward of the woofer in the center of the speaker baffle. This line array column utilizes 4 custom designed 2.5" neodymium paper-cone drivers and no compression tweeter is used in this design. The use and placement of the line array provides exceptional clarity and ultra-smooth response, along with broad dispersion and projection that line array principals produce. The 10" woofer produces the depth and roundness of the low frequencies while the mid and high frequencies are produced by the line array and are clear, natural and authentic to the acoustic instrument.

The blend of this innovative speaker system along with our preamp and amplifier platform delivers an acoustic amp like no other available. Either used as an acoustic instrument amplifier from the stage or a stand-mounted PA, the Acoustic Array PRO is a 27 lb versatile package ideal for a variety of uses and venues.

Two Identical Preamp Channels w/Mic and Instrument Inputs

OVERVIEW / SPECIFICATIONS:

PREAMP --- Identical dual channels with Mic and Instrument inputs on each.

INPUT -- 5Meg ohm input impedance.
MIC AND INSTRUMENT INPUTS --- on each channel. These inputs can also be used simultaneously together on each channel.
CHANNEL VOLUME – Voiced to provide natural, pristine, transparent reproduction of the instrument.
INPUT PHASE SWITCH – reverses the polarity of the instrument input to help control potential feedback.
CONTOUR -- continuously variable control of a pre-shaped curve that boosts lows and highs while simultaneously cutting Mids. The slope is fairly gentle which keeps the tone shaping very musical. This curve covers a wide range of EQ and offers a quick and simple starting point for EQ adjustments.
ACTIVE EQUALIZATION – The AA-PRO contains an active 3 band equalizer with a sweepable parametric mid-range frequency control.
Bass +/- 15dB boost/cut shelving curve with a corner frequency of 75Hz
Mid +/- 15dB boost/cut of the variable mid frequency selected
Freq. Variable mid frequency from 200Hz- 5kHz
Treble +/- 15dB boost/cut shelving curve with a corner frequency of 7.5kHz
Digital Effect --- Each channel has its own set of REVERB and CHORUS level controls that provide the user with the most flexibility in having either or both effects on each channel. The parameters of each effect are variable at the Master Section with the Reverb Time and Chorus Rate controls.

POWER AMP --- The Acoustic Array™ PRO uses a state of the art, Class D power amplifier design and a high frequency auto-sensing universal switch-mode power supply (SMPS) to achieve unprecedented high performance in a lightweight package. For global use, there are no Voltage Switches to change or jumpers to move. This SMPS senses the line voltage from 100-240 Volts and automatically configures itself.

REAR PANEL

XLR Direct Output – 3 Outputs

Nice to see Mr. Genzler back in the "acoustic" amp market. This looks like a thoughtful update of the old Shenandoah line. I'll look forward to trying one soon!

"MIC AND INSTRUMENT INPUTS --- on each channel. These inputs can also be used simultaneously together on each channel"

Does it mean you can plug 2 guitars and 2 mics on the same time?

Certainly looks like a quality presentation. I take it Genzler is the successor to Genz Benz.

Not sure what differentiates it innovation-wise or price-wise from other high end competitors other than the 10" speaker which is not necessarily a definite improvement.

I believe it has one less channel than Acus/Schertler.

Regarding separate effects for each channel, that's good and bad. Good for flexibility and bad because it gives people the chance to mess up the acoustic space and sound unnatural which can happen when using different verbs for instance.

If one was sitting five feet away from me I'd be anxious to try it out but I can't tell from the product blurb and pictures why it would stand out from Acus, Schertler, Mesa Rosette, AER and others in that class.

That would be useful and a point of differentiation from competitors.

Yes. This is the same configuration used on some of the Shenandoah amps. The only limitation is that you don't have separate control of the levels when you use both inputs on a given channel, so you need to make sure that at least one of the signals can be controlled externally (like with most active pickup systems on acoustic-electric guitars). You set the on board gain using the fixed signal and then adjust the other as necessary to match. You also don't have separate EQ and etc. Works pretty well, although it's really the sort of thing I've only ever used in a pinch (on my Shen ProLT).

Seems to have fixed gain on each inputs. Since the power rails are 12v, I hope they have put enough gain not to face mackie freeplay and JBL eon one problems...

Very interesting offering. Priced like the Mesa Rosette.

It's really hard to tell for sure from the pictures provided
but it looks like there is a master volume as well as a
volume control for each channel. Isn't that a variable gain
set up? (Honest question.)

Clearly, you can dial in separate effects for each channel but
it looks like (again less than optimal pictures) the effects
parameter controls are in the master section. If so you can have
separate amounts of verb for each channel but it's going to be
the same kind of verb both. That seems good/right.

The specs say the input impedance is 5 megohms. That would
be the instrument input. That wouldn't apply to the mic input, too,
would it?

Had a Genz Benz and was not too impressed for a pro amp. The tone was just not nearly as good as other offerings. Hope this is a higher level system with better tone like AER produces. It does look nice though. Hope it sounds nice. I like the features for a solo act only.

Which sounds impressive although there is a school of thought that 1 megohms is all you really need for hi fi sound, going north of there looks good on paper. Unless they've figured out a way to make their inputs sound 5 times better.

It actually reminds my an awful lot of the previous Genz-Benz Compak 300.
