No need to dribble!

Here are some old photos of the Waterloo WL-14L just after I bought it in about 2018:

And with its other friend! (WL-14X):

The ladder and the X have moved further apart in sound as they age a bit! The necks are wonderful for my style of fingerplucking.

And .......I live south of Melbourne in southern Australia, known for the worst weather extremes in the country! T Shirt today, full winter coat walking my dog last might! You probably are dreaming of Queensland coast weather, a few thousand miles north!

Can you describe the difference in sound between the X and L?

I own an X, have never had the chance to play an L.

They are wonderful instruments.

p.s. Great photos

Got a WL12 - I really like it -but we didn't start well.
Wife No1 says it looks "vulgar".

However, the whole point of the Waterloo's burst is to emulate the Gibson - Kalamazoo styles of yore.

She doesn't even like my Collings burst or my Santa Cruz.

No matter - I do!

Stunning, as you know I have an x braced version. Only slightly envious that you have a ladder braced option as well. Ok I’m very envious [emoji3]

I would say my X is very Gibson L-00, quite smooth...while the L is Kalamazoo KL-14, more astringent and ‘hokey’ and nails Robert Johnson riffs!

I have mentioned this before...but I bought the X first......I was originally wanting a ladder but nobody here had one when I had the cash! But I was very pleased with the X.

I had a couple guitars on consign and one Martin OM just didn’t get any interest in ages. The shop had the Waterloo L sitting there for quite a long while and I had played it a number of times...uh oh......

I asked if I could swap the OM for the L plus a Hiscox and they were glad to move the L along, I think. And now I have played it a lot! . Just perfect for my playing.....

I like the 12 fret ladder braced Waterloos. I have had some other X Waterloos in the past. I had a WL-S in the past and sold it. And regretted it. So I got another one. They are supprisingly consistent yet the second one I got has a real mojo to it. I don't play it much though as I play my Deluxe mostly and let the other one sit there with it's bad mojo and anticipate the day I'll put it to work. I need to get a pick up in it. They are the guitars for me. I'm a guitar geek and look at all the beautiful guitars to be had but I know from experience they are not for me in the long run.

Thanks, I had assumed that might be the case. When I first ordered my WL-14X I wondered if it was going to be a one trick pony, but I find it to be rather versatile. I enjoy it for playing blues, but it doesn't do too bad a job with other genres as well.

Super nice guitar. I have the same one (the sunburst). I notice yours has a different label - is that Bill Collings? Mine is a 2017, before his untimely death.

Also, since you have a K&K system, how did you go about installing the pure mini? I just got a pure mini on mine / the luthier extended the bridge plate towards the neck and put a rosewood layer over the entire new bridge plate. I have yet to take a photo of the inside.

I must say, it sounds at least as good as before/

I have an X, black but with a zebra pick guard. Love this guitar, but would really like to play it side by side with an L to see the difference. All finger style blues, lots of percussive Robert Johnson type riffing. I have my Collings for the sweeter stuff Also, Im curious about your K&K. I have a pure mini in my Collings, about to add one for the Waterloo. Is your pick up a bit different? I usually run it through a Red Eye if I'm into a PA, but just direct if I'm into an amp. Curious how you use yours.
