Default “France” a Keb Mo cover

Happy, optimistic blues…I didn’t even know it was a thing until I heard Keb Mo, but now that I do, I think it’s my favorite genre!

This is my cover of Keb Mo’s wonderful tune: “France”:

Very nice, Larry! You sure do nice things with a guitar!

Nicely done. Unusual sound for an acoustic. Pick-up being used?

Yeah, the pickup into the amp you see in the frame. The idea was to get a mix of the real acoustic sound and a bit of amp mixed in. I don’t like it as much as I thought I would.

The tech notes for this song are the same as for “I Want To Go Back To Not Knowing” except that I used my Elite Acoustics D6-58 instead of the Yamaha THR30iiA.

I used the remote app on my watch to frame the shot and start and stop the recording. That seems to work really well.

I used a cheap light tripod with a Moment MagSafe mount which also has a cold shoe for mounting a mic.

The microphone is a Rode VideoMic Micro. I have this plugged into the phone with a short Saramonic 1/8” microphone to Lightning cable. This mic is mounted in the cold shoe adapter on the Moment MagSafe adapter.

At that distance, the guitar seems a little soft and trebly acoustically, so I used a Yamaha THR30iiA amp to augment the low frequencies and add a little reverb.

It’s not the most incredible sound, but it isn’t bad, and it does make for a really nice and easy setup for recording “selfie music videos” like this.
