Yeah, get us (well, me) back on track with some picks of Dale's build for you. Have I needed to mention that I'm envious?

(And yes, I am also jealous of your beautiful guitars and your playing ability! I would love it if Dale can even come close to reproducing the neck of your SJ. The guitar lust is mutual,)

Really FUN thread
I am really loving this!
A vintage inspired instrument with a bevel!!! And that purfling is beautiful. More comfort for everyone right away... seems like a worthy goal Happy New Year Paul

The game is afoot! The success of Iris Guitars, and the move of the shop to larger quarters delayed a bunch of Dale’s custom builds.
The ‘Fox’ is now heading towards completion. Hopefully, Kathy and I will be talking a road trip up to Burlington Vermont next month. A34F0A48-04DE-4F0A-BDC9-7F9A50452467.jpeg AE0E1C9C-72DA-4E51-ACDD-CFB391366A1D.jpeg 1F0433E0-886F-48D4-9F9A-3CD8FD1BCF99.jpeg

Dale was raving about his new dovetail jig: “This dovetail cutting jig has changed my life. Perfectly centered and angled for the right string height right off the bat.”

As far as pics go, the iphone takes 'em in large format and AGF only accepts them in a smaller format. Finding the utility that connects the two is a constant battle. I'll try to get a bigger picture of that jig; I've been wondering where it was purchased, or if it was shop-built. I don't know if you can see it, but there's a dial gauge to calibrate the neck angle. This, combined with their new Plek machine should create a really wonderful playing guitar. Also, I am letting Dale figure out the design elements for the fret markers and the headstock. I gave him a general idea of what would be acceptable, but have no idea of what the final will look like. This is very cool - I know I'm getting a really incredible guitar, but don't exactly know what it will look like, or how it will sound. All I know is that it will be incredible. Nice problem to have! best, Rick

Yes!! I'm really enjoying the Fairbanks F35. Using Martin 12-54 Retros and loving the tone. Great to see movement on your guitar.
It's really too bad about Gibson cracking down on design elements. I ran into that when ordering the Kopp I owned. |

AFAIK, this has been a Gibson M.O. for many years. I remember when Chris Martin trolled them a few years back with the CEO-8, but I guess it's a question of whose dog is bigger: ceo8.jpg Here's a thread about that: https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/...d.php?t=380190 Thanks in advance, Rick PS - I approve this thread drift

With the Kopp it was in late 2016. I was looking over those emails and I told Kevin I'd keep the conversation confidential, so that's all I'm sayin'.

On the home stretch… we decided to dump the parallelogram inlays for something a little different. These are based on a 1927 Nick Lucas that was featured in ‘Fretboard Journal’ a few years back. This will be an interesting guitar when it’s done!

shock!
Here I am minding my own business, when I see - - - for the first time ever in my experience in print, a mention of The Jungle! I spent two of my Uconn years (1965-1967) on West Campus. Rumors were that the Jungle was host to madmen and engineering students. Loved it!
And that router base for circle cutting - - - I made one just like it by writing down dimensions and materials while Chris Paulick described how to make one on YouTube. It's a small and wonderful world. Thanks, everybody! |
