Thanks Dennis,

I will make it of course, but it sure won't be fun waiting! I was happy to see how well the guitar is packed for its trip! Can you imagine if something happened to it at this point, geez that would be tough!!!

Can't wait to see your Hatcher build in its final glory!!!! We are so close in the build steps you and I, too bad we don't live closer we could have a little jam session with the newly born guitars!!! Throw in a Stehr and a John Kinnaird and we would have quite the group, even if we all suck as players we would sure as heck look good with that stable!!!!

Tom

Thanks from me as well, Dennis.
We used to tell folks that when the guitar was built, i.e. the wood working was finished, we were about half way there.
A proper finish is as critical as anything else on the guitar, and is difficult to execute. It will feel as if the world has quit spinning, but this waiting time is time well-spent. Tony's finishes are second to none, and you're going to love what he adds to the equation.

Steve

Default Headstock work

Steve got some work done on the headstock inlays this weekend. Here are some "in-progress" pics:

He found two super pieces of paua to use for his monogram. They are purposely different so that there is contrast between the center letter and the two on the sides:

The first pic shows the selected paua pieces with the "K" cut out and the "s" and "t" waiting their turns. A jeweler's saw is used to make the cuts.

Next the "K" has been filed down to final shape, the little free section cut off and is glued into its position on the headstock waiting to be inlaid...

Now the "s" and "t" have been cut out and laid on the headstock for preview purposes. They still need to be filed and they are still rough cut according to Steve, but his rough cut would be my best work!!!

Gorgeous abalone Tom. Love it. Out of curiosity, what does the "t" stand for?

Funny you should ask, because I don't know what Steve's middle name is, but last night we had a little laugh when Steve sent the pictures as my wife's name is Kathy, of course mine is Tom, and then there is Steve. So Kathy decided it was pretty nice of Steve to make the K for her name the largest of the three...go ahead, you tell her that it stands for Kinnaird, I dare ya

I'm pretty sure that the build would have never gotten off the ground without her!

Nice to have some progress to watch while the box is at the finisher. Nice looking shell, Tom!

"Taylor"; my mother's maiden name was given to me as my middle name.

Yes for sure, plus she has helped with some of the design features as well!

Thank you. That is some nice shell, I think it really pops off the BRW overlay there. We still have the fret board inlay to go, so there will be something to make the time go by a little faster, albeit maybe turtle vs. slug faster....

Steve got the tuners in from Italy. We went with Alessi tuners. This guitar is definitely going to have a little European flare with both the top and tuners from Italy.
