Thank you! I spend a huge amount of time getting my finish to look the way it does, so I appreciate that people notice it. It doesn't hurt that Cardinal lacquer has a more shiny or wet look compared to other lacquers.

What pore filler did you use? I just finished a parlor guitar with cocobolo b/s earlier this year and didn't pore fill. Guitar still looks good even though the lacquer shrunk back into the grain.

I use traditional oil based pore filler that LMI sells. I fill directly onto the bare wood. I find this works best but your sanding needs to be on point and purfling masked off etc as not to stain the purfles. I also do two epoxy treatments during the build process to stabilize certain woods which also helps fill the pores. The combination of the two creates a nice flat surface prior to sealing and throughout the finish process. Congrats on your guitar!

I'll have to try that next time. It's a small price to pay for a lifetime of enjoyment.

Thanks!

Today I balanced the loss of life by bringing life into the world as I got to hear the voice of this lovely guitar for the first time. My mother would have turned 66 today and it seemed a fitting tribute to bring this guitar to life in her memory.

Overnight the voice changed as expected and already it is showing great potential. I'm excited for what the next few days will bring as the voice matures. This morning I dialed in the set up. Over the weekend I'll finish the nut and do the final QC in preparation for shipping to its temporary home in Nashville next week.
