Even some very nice classical guitars have laminate back and sides. There are lots of arguments about this and tone of course. I believe it's the Smallman guitars that have extremely thick laminate back and sides, with a thin, solid top. It follows the concept of drums, which are laminate. Both instruments are percussive.
