Congrats Phil
Wow Phil, that wood is phenomenal! The back seems like it will look almost 3D under finish.
I don't have a clue either on the theme. Please don't keep us hanging long. On my upcoming Baranik Meridian build, I too am having Mike use Spanish cedar as the double side wood for the lightness and aroma (mainly the aroma).

I'm guessing the theme is Ode to the Scantron Form. But I'm a teacher, so...
I can't wait to see this thread develop. Baranik. Mayes. Now McKnight. Riorider, I love your taste! Last edited by bajawatt; 12-14-2012 at 01:38 PM. |

The little pieces will all be put together as parts of a larger pattern. Those who know my in-laws in Kingfisher, OK, may have an edge at what that larger pattern may be. I'm not really trying to tease anyone, but this is a bit of fun, so I'll give you another "clue". I'm sure the guesses will be quite wild on this - and to answer the obvious (since bwatt is a teacher!) this is not an illustrated version of "human health class" in 7th grade (at least - that's when I had that particular lesson in gym class... it's probably nowadays in K or 1st grade!). And remember the forum rules and that younger folk do occasionally read these posts (so - no clues from the younger folks, ok?). Cheers all, Phil Last edited by riorider; 01-24-2013 at 06:50 PM. |

Today's hint - these are my in-laws, and the 'theme' is closely related.
Also relevant is that I will use this guitar in my Christian church song leading, so the 'theme' will have symbolic relevance in that setting. I'm in a way leading you all through the decision process as it developed over the past couple of years - wanting to have a guitar which honored my in-laws as well as contained symbolic elements important to me and to the McKnights as well. Cheers, Phil |

Harvest, corn, wheat? My first thoughts were fish scales or chain mail but somehow that doesn't seem to fit with your in-law's monster tractor!

Here's that picture in context: So, they are wheat farmers. And wheat figured in several parables and stories. How to weave those together to make a connection without being too 'in your face'. Those of you who have seen my guitars or pictures know that I love wood, and wood "bling", but not shell. And I particularly like the abstract or oblique more than realism. From discussions with Tim and Mary - and we also considered use of a "tree" symbolism but finally rejected that as too complicating - we came to the decision that the headstock, rosette, and possibly the sound port would carry the theme. The chain is a "wheat" chain. The little pieces of pernambuco are to be elements of the headstock inlay and rosette - they are kernels of wheat. I actually don't know how Tim is going to put all of these together, but I have some partial pictures. I'll wait until it's more complete to show you the progression from parts to the whole. But - I can at least show a couple of build shots to thank you for your patience and engagement in watching the build! Thanks all, Phil Gluing the back together Cleaning the glue (followed by sanding etc.) and all of a sudden my photo account and AGF are not cooperating, so I'll post more pictures in a bit... P |

Wheat?
...and wheat was going to be my first guess for your guitar theme.
I should have chimed in. John |
