I suspect this is like watching someone rediscover the wheel but this oval cutter stuff is pretty interesting to me. Here is the final proof that the x pivot works.

And it is also possible to not only cut out the sound hole but to cut rosette channels as well. Here is a thin shop made rope purfling Rosette that will match the top purfling when everything is tricked out.

Cedar top of course

Smile Ain't she cute!

Nice John.

I like the oval hole on this. And your rope purfling /rosette looks sweet.

I predict more John Kinnaird fans soon. Especially one in Memphis!

Cheers and SALUD

Paul

Bro, your rope purfling really floats my boat, and it looks like it will float your Skiff. Good stuff there!

The top has been glued down and here you can see my bracing pattern if you're into that sort of thing.
I plan to do some more voicing at this stage..

In keeping with the retro theme of this little box I'm making some rope purfling in colors that reflect the woods found elsewhere on the body

This pic shows cutting out the marquetry pieces that will go in a channel

The little pieces ready to get glued into their slot

More or less ready to go to Tony to get finished.

I squirted a little naphtha to kick it up some.

That's really a beautiful little thing, John!

That is really a lot of little pieces to put together--mucho patience, I reckon!

Thank you Nemoman. I dont know about the patience part. I just set it down when impatience happens. That's why it takes so long.

The marquetry particularly caught my eye. Haven't seen much like that on new guitars since Haans Brentrup stopped building. Nice!

It's turning out to be another beautiful Kinnaird!

You have so much talent and make gorgeous guitars. Don't know if anyone has ever asked this before, but, do you ever keep any of these for yourself?

For me, they'd be just like raising puppies...I could never let any of them go.
