Default Bozo guitar: info needed!

I just got the oppertunity to buy a Bozo guitar at a fairly good price.

However I'm still in doubt due to lack of information. This is what I've got.

- probably made in 1970, bell western model
- Brazilian rosewood back and sides
- Serial on the inside is 117
- few to none fancy inlays
- carved headstock, but other then the Bozo sign, no inlay

Anyone can inform me a little more? Could it be made by Bozo himself or could it be a Japanese copie by Yairi?
I've been told all the Japanese modeld have the letter 'B' in their serial.

I'm looking forward to find out more information about this guitar.

Kind regards

Default Bozo

A real Bozo is worth far more than the Yairi-made ones. The one I have seen photos of are on the ornate side. Hopefully someone who really knows these things will chime in.

There is Bozo group on Facebook. You will certainly get a positive ID there. I could guess but without photos I'd rather not.

^^^ This.

I am knowledgeable on Bozo's work, but Brian Kolner (who sometimes posts here ) is *far* more knowledgeable...and he is very active/available on the FB group.

Either way, you will need photos, and if there is a label inside the guitar, a model number...and the latter (label/model no.) would be for an Asian-made instrument.

I just re-read your initial post.

If indeed it is a 1970 guitar, it may very well be a handcrafted guitar built by Bozo himself.

We *need* photos.

Help...!

Thanks, Larry. As soon as I saw the thread title I thought "I hope Larry Pattis sees this," and my next glimpse showed that you'd responded.

Larry knows far more and has far more personal experience with Bozo guitars than I have, though I've played several examples of both Bozo originals and the licensed Japanese-made copies. I was under the impression that it was Morris that made those Japanese Bozos, not Yairi, but I don't know diddly squat for certain. Unlike Larry, I've never owned a Bozo made on either continent, much less ever gigged out with one.

I'll join the rousing chorus clamoring for photos, though, as soon as they can be arranged.

there's a little mark shaped like

v

over the z, so it's pronounced like the s in leisure. It's Serbian. I think it's the diminutive form of a longer name but I can't remember what.

A look inside the guitar is as valuable as the exterior. The import version looks like a mass produced import in the bracing and structure. Unmistakable from small shop hand work.

Here is one. And it is pronounced "Bozho" Very ornate, old-world Eastern-European craftsmanship, generally.
