John has built quite a few great instruments with laminate bracing, but to my knowledge, no CF lams yet…

This will be a super cool axe, I wager!

Thanks for sharing the build with us all!

Thanks Paul!
I thought it would be an interesting build to show. I don't know about a super cool axe...I was hoping for something a bit more gentle with a depth of sound - beautiful deep lows and diistinct clear trebles!!

For the back, we selected a Birdseye Maple set that still has a little bit of swirl…

Then, we decided to add a center strip of African Blackwood…

Glued and blocked…
And presto, the back !!!

The low end response you get from such a small guitar is like a freakin magic trick. Hats off to you man.”

Can't wait to hear this guitar!!

Very attractive body shape and wood combination. I love the contrast of the birdseye maple with the ABW. The appointments are subtle and tasteful. Quite unlike myself.

Yes, minimalist rosette focusing on sound…I finally found the nut width I like, and the body size with a full sound, and Rye is local for me which is cool since I can visit more often!

So, after a bit of a break to move to Vancouver Island, and have a baby!!, Rye is back in the shop. Here’s some pics of the body prior to send off to the finisher…

Very late to the party Jeff.

That is a side construction I have not seen before, ie. laminating the kerfed linings in the middle of the two other pieces of the sides? It also looks like the kerfed portion was not as wide as the sides in the sandwich he is holding up which makes me think those are put in with two pieces each the width of 1/2 of the sides??? If not, then there would be a space in between those two halves? Am I completely messed up here with what I think I am seeing?

Tom
