Default # of Ukes in collection

Guys,

I'm interested in finding out if you guys who have and play Ukes have multiple Ukes and if so, how many?

Thanks

Hey Guitar Storage - I just have to say that I like your website! Some great looking racks there.

Regarding the # of ukes I have, zero. Perhaps one day.

All my ukes with the exception of a Martin style 0 are 17 fret necks, and here's the embarrassing list showing I've spent way too much money!!

'20s Gibson Uke- 2
'20s Gibson Uke-2 (near mint)
'20s Gibson Uke-3 ( got it from ukejon above in trade for Ko'olau CE-2 tenor)
'50s Martin Style-0
Recent Kiwaya KTS-6
Recent Glyph mezzo soprano in the Gibson Uke-3 style
Recent Dave Newton soprano
And a Dave Newton Taropatch on the way. Taropatch is a concert scale with 8 strings in 4 courses.

All are mahogany.

Dave Newton builds some mean guitars as well.

I notice your focus is on guitar rack systems and hangers. This is a guitar forum, and we are few here. If you asked this same question on a uke site, like Ukulele Underground, you'd be surprised at your as-yet-untapped-market. Right now I use Ingles stands when I keep them out. That's 7 stands at 25-30 bucks.. Would be nice to have a humidified system so I could keep them out in the winter... just sayin'..

One Kamaka Gold Label soprano, as per my sig. Solid koa.

Aaaaannnnd, uhhh, yeah ... one no-name "Chicago-style" soprano (1910s - 30s?) that followed us home from the luthier's after the Kamaka's recent repairs. Solid, errr, some kind of wood.

UAS is a real thing, too. Ukes (tend to be, but are not necessarily) cheaper than guitars, and they take up less space. But I've got both of the ukes I've always wanted, right now. I seem to be deep into remission. Uke-wise, that is.

Keli'i Tenor Gold Label (just sold it, but hasn't shipped yet)
Pono KPT-2E (just sold it, but hasn't shipped yet)
Pono KPC-2E
Kamaka Tenor White Label
Kamaka White Label Six String
Vintage Martin Soprano
Moore Bettah Tenor
First Tenor I built (Engelmann Spruce/African Mahogany)
Second Tenor I'm currently building (Cedar/False Kamani)

Now that I'm building, I'm no longer buying. There are a few exceptions, though, like another from Chuck Moore for my girlfriend...

I think that covers them.

Neal,

Thanks for your input, it's much appreciated. Is your preference to keep them in cases or do you like both options?

2 tenors....one with re-entrant, one with low G. One for jams and workshops (strumming) and one for fingerpicking.

I'd like options. My ukes are, to me, good looking functional art. Sad to keep them cased for 4 months.

[X]AS discriminates not LOL. When I played mostly uke, my UAS was in full bore. I was buying, returning, keeping, trading, exchanging ukes as fast as I could change their strings. Now that I am much more into guitar and even more so focused on classical guitar, my uke population has since stabilized to what I believe is a good sampling:

Kamaka HF3 – my crown jewel uke hand crafted in Hawaii of all solid koa, tenor size.

Nice – bought from a local luthier in Oahu, also all solid koa, concert size, very affordable and my go-to uke, has seen a lot of beaches. A bit temperamental with strings but after a LOT of trial and error I’ve found the perfect combination (basically, the ones it first came with lol).

Ohana SK50-MG – what would a uke collection be without a soprano? Picked this gem out in a line of other SK50-MG’s here in the mainland, the sound was so head and shoulders above the others, I couldn’t resist. I offer this guy to my non-uke friends that want to try a “traditional soprano” and they all go crazy.

Cordoba 20TM-CE – this was my foray into amped uke. Didn’t work out so well since I thought the same amp for my electric would suffice. Try as I might, I just can’t get it to sound good plugged in. It’s a great uke in itself but if any were to go, this would be it.

Of the renowned “K” ukes, I also once owned a KaAloha concert which was just superb. I got it for a mere $100 or so bucks from an unknowing Hawaiian shirt retailer in Arizona who had it as a decoration. UAS got the best of me and I foolishly parted with it and used the profit to … wait for it … buy another uke.

If I could choose, I would stick with my Kamaka as the tenor and compliment it with a KoAloha soprano and a Kanilea concert. Unfortunately, they would never see the light of day though for fear of damaging them lol.
