Regardless of when you are planning to "use it" don't leave it in the garage...

Bring it in side.. don't ask for problems, and you're doing that leaving it there.

I keep my cars in the garage and they're way more expensive than my guitars.

I leave my car on the side of the road. That doesn't make it the greatest place to store an unattended Gibson.

And besides, cars fit very poorly under your bed.

I’m with you on this.
Guitars get shipped in unheated trailers in the winter in bitter cold.
As long as you let them acclimate before you open the case, chances are, you’re good.

I agree.

Until relatively recently, I thought that all that mattered was the RH - but I've become convinced that temps can adversely affect guitars and their sounds and set ups too.

I can't see any down side to simply storing the guitar inside the house till Christmas...

... and then you can stop thinking about whether or not it is safe to leave the guitar in a cold(ish) garage.

Thanks everyone, for the good advice. It's stashed in the garage because I have 2 school-aged kids, and Mrs. Fly and I want them to think that I am surprised on Christmas morning. But I'm going to find a way to keep it out of sight somewhere more hospitable.

It's been quite a while since my son was school aged so I hope you'll forgive me when I say that I don't understand a decision that involves deceiving your kids and risks messing up the finish on your new, expensive guitar is the lesser of evils...

So you think that wanting your kids to believe something that you know to be untrue is not deception??? My bad.....

I would bring it in. You must have some concern or the question wouldn't have been asked.

Even if I had to slide it under the bed so I couldn't see it till Christmas.

If that's the case, what do you tell your kids that you and Mrs. RP are doing when you two are having a little "alone time"?

And they're also designed to be used in rain and snow. Try that with your non-CF expensive guitar...

There is no Ms. RP and the little one is 32 years old and lives on his own...
