This was the shock that nearly stopped me in my tracks... I doubt it will make sense to anyone but Cuki who encouraged me to ignore it, but that and dividing by zero could not leave my brain.

This is VERY cool. GREAT job, Cuki! Aaaron, I loved your live stream - it took me a while to watch it all but it was worth it.
I'll be doing my own research now on IR loader pedals. Just what I need - more stuff to tinker with.

I would say mic placement and mic selection are both important to get exactly what you want in an IR of an acoustic instrument.
However, if you can only fiddle with one of these, placement probably has the edge over mic selection in giving you tonality options on a guitar.

For my money the goal is to get a great, useable sound rather than an accurate one, which wouldn't always be appropriate in the mix. With that in mind I want a solid note with nice, soft percussive top end and overall transparency to leave room for other people.
Different presets for rhythmic vs melody vs fingerpicking is nice but generally the TD boost function takes care of 75% of that. In practice mic placement has been the most useful variable and makes the most significant contribution to avoiding the "phasing" dissonant sound. I've also experimented with distance and, despite the protestations of others who are far more qualified than me (nudge, nudge, look up), I swear I can hear an important element of "room" in the sound when the TD is trained at 4ft+. I've not done the same variety of tests with these IRs but hope to do so before they close down the lockdown.

Hi everyone,
The IR processes are able to discriminate mics, position and room (especially if you make long ones). But if you remember well, when Tonedexter was released and create a well deserved buzz on the AGF, some were asking:« Should I buy a $$$ mic to train my tonedexter» or «should I rent a studio mic...». The truth is as ShuffleBeat stated, most of us want a dry tone with an acoustic realist attack. Most of us don't want the full body resonant tone of our guitar because it rarely conveys well through an acoustic amp+random room. So if you are only playing fingerstyle through studio monitors the mic choice matters. If you want a decent plugged in tone when struming in a 4 pieces band through plastic PA speakers, any mic and some time spent in trial and error will get you where you want.

By the way Shufflebeat did you find the secret hidden «load file» option?

Cuki,
This is outstanding, I'm excited to dig in, thanks! What an incredible work you and Jon have done to move DIY IR along for all of us guitar nerds who aren't computer nerds.

I'm hoping to try and work with this program sometime tonight. I watched the video once, and I wanna watch it again to truly digest it. Am I right, in thinking that I need a pedal to use the IR that I make?

If you have a low latency audio interface you can play with the PC replacing the pedals. Check the website. http://acousticir.free.fr/spip.php?rubrique16 there are pdf for windows and Mac to show how to install IL minihost and an IR convolver plugin. This is what I use at the end of the free IR generator app video, in which I play the IR without a pedal.

No, Jon forgot that you can use a VST/AU plugin to try.
You need a pedal to gig with your IR. At home you can try with a computer. (see my previous post)
