Default AER Compact 60 vs Tommy Emmanuel model

I am ready to purchase an AER and am wondering if there is much of a tone difference between the standard Compact 60 and the TE model. I am aware that the TE model allows for the effects to be sent through the direct out. However, is there a difference in the tone of the amps? I am looking for the warmest sounding amp possible. I can get the standard AER for $200 less than the TE, therefore why I am wondering. Am unable to try out the TE as I would need to special order it.

Thanks for any input.

Nancy

There's not much difference in sound methinks. Having the reverb in the send could come in handy if you want to use an extension speaker. It would be nice if they made the reverb in DI signal out switchable so you could choose.

I got the TE version mostly because I'm a TE fan and partly because of my preference for the wet signal out. But I don't think you'll go wrong either way.

FWIW the sound of my amp has mellowed and sweetened a bit as the speaker has accumulated a bit of playing time. The amp right out of the box was a wee bit stiff sounding (boxy) and the sound has opened up nicely with use.

Hi Al,

Thanks a lot for the info. That is good to know that the amp will open up over time. The one I tried in the store sounded fantastic, but if it gets even better, that is just awesome.

Remember too that TE was using the standard 60/1 and then 60/2 before his signature model. I have had mine for several years and enjoy it but it is dead on accurate in that - what you put in is exactly what you get out.
My only complaint is that I would like more controls for vocals- just add a mid control.
Otherwise, you can't go wrong with either the TE or standard 60.

200 bucks for an effects out sounds a bit steep.
guess your paying for that signature.

Please let me know if you are happy with the AER. I have a good offer for a used Domino 3 and heard they are great for acoustic and vocals, but I never heard one with my own ears before.
