I was at a small guitar show, and showcased was one of the top finger style guitarists in the US. I had washed my hands after going to the bathroom and as I turned to leave, he was exiting a stall (and did not wash his hands). Needless to say, I just waved to him. And no, I did not have any desire to shake his hand later on! It still creeps me out to think about it.

Ever notice how many males do not wash their hands in public bathrooms? Seems to be plenty of germs going around.

I once said the way many public bathrooms are set up (you have to touch he door to go out and there are no paper towels just blowers), if we ever have a pandemic it wlll be a doozy! I was right!

BTW how many of you knew your computer keyboard is more germ ridden than a toilet seat? Or that the human mouth cavity has more species of bacteria than a dogs and some are quite nasty? (For example a human bite is ore likely to get severely infected vs. a dog bite.) I saw that one proven on Myth Busters.

I am happy to report that since I was a kid (maybe 60 years ago) that the number of men washing after going to the bathroom has improved greatly. This isn’t an official statistic, but just what I have observed. And, when there is a child involved with a father, the percentage goes even higher.

To your point, a LOT of disease is spread by folks (of both genders!) who do not wash their hands. And to echo again, door handles, etc. are a big culprit. Thank God that most of us have a really good immune system.

Rick.

PS - as far as the human mouth goes, you really don’t want to know! But hygiene in the mouth has improved greatly over the last forty years. It’s still not where it needs to be, however.

I was in 6th grade when I started playing the trumpet. One of 5 little girls in a small house, the only place to practice was the bathroom….and a small one at that! It’s a wonder I have any hearing left. I have no desire to repeat the experience now that I’ve taken up the guitar in my dotage 🤣.

Don't need one but I will. I turn the guitar around against the wall before the final act and wash my hands before picking the guitar back up.

I hope that takes care of the fears of the OCD here among us.
