Default What did I buy?

I'm new to the world of Classical guitars. I'm mainly a steel string player but wanted to dabble with a nylon string. I picked this up yesterday from a lady in San Francisco who was getting rid of her fathers stuff due to his alzheimer condition. Paid $100. She said that it had always been around the house since she was a kid in the 70's but never really played. It is remarkable condition. The top looks solid from what I can see looking at the sound hole grain. The b&S are laminated for sure. Action is just a bit more than 4mm both low and high E with about 3mm of saddle, so no room for lowering I suspect. Plays nicely though and sounds very sweet. I can't get much info about this company. I suspect that it was a student or intermediate model. Any help would be appreciated...

I like to look at the guitars this ebay seller has... mostly all from
Japan, 50/50 Martin-like dreadnoughts and fancy Japanese made
classicals...

https://www.ebay.com/str/victorsguitargallery

I've emailed him before and he answered quickly and politely,
maybe he knows something about TAKAs...?

There's a Taka for sale on Reverb, says that it's Korean made. A center back stripe and lam Braz rosewood usually means a mid to higher grade instrument, but since it was shipped out to Korea I would say mid. Some companies were contracted to produce guitars under many different brand names. Take that action down 1mm, even 2, and use tie beads to increase the saddle break angle by a small amount.

Victor is a good source.

Nice. I've never heard of the company, but it sure looks great for $100. Congrats.

I'm assuming that mine being a Japanese made guitar would perhaps indicate that it's halfway decent then?

Well I took down the saddle and now have exactly 4mm at the 12th fret both high and low e. I'd like to get the high e down another 1/2 - 1 mm but there isn't a whole lot of saddle left so this seems to be all I can do for now. There is a bit more relief than is necessary so I may have a go at heating the neck and seeing if I can get it straighter but that's down the road. I think I'll let it get acclimated to the new surroundings because my location 30 miles south of the city has a far different climate than San Francisco. Usually 15-20 degrees hotter in the summer.

David, I think you got a great deal with purchasing the Taka and since you say it sounds and plays great, you are very lucky.
