I'm a little overdue on updates.
First up I've been designing some inlays for a future build that I'm super excited about, but it's going to be a little bit before I can get to it.  Back to the Sapele guitar with the inlays - here are the headstock front and back laminates getting their layers squished in the vacuum bag. I use an epoxy designed for lamination for this part. You unfortunately can't see it, but the top layer of the backstrap is a beautiful piece of redwood burl.  And here is everything getting clamped and glued to the neck. These are all attached with hot hide glue. Fretboard:  Backstrap:  Faceplate:  I give the hide glue a couple of days to really set and dry out, and here we are ready for carving:  Not as much carving as I like with the figured Sapele - much more rasping and filing. This is approaching done, but there is still some work to do. I hit it with a little naptha to show the figure:

Getting this one close to the finish line. Here is the bridge going on with the vacuum clamp:
 This bridge is katalox.  Buffing it out and getting ready for strings:  I made up some deep red shellac for the sapele guitar. I will use this on the body for a bit and then probably switch to super blonde.  Here it is on the body, this is just a wash coat. Pore fill next!

The pale moon ebony guitar finished curing, got buffed and strung up! There's a temporary ebony saddle on it for now, I will make the final bone saddle later this week. It's 4 days old and the sound has really pulled together on it, very nice even response across the strings and up the fretboard. The client for this one tunes down a whole step and I worked to push the resonant frequency of the box down a bit to accommodate that. I'm very happy with it so far. I will make a recording in the next week or so, and do a real photo shoot before it goes to live in its new home.
 The french polishing continues on this sapele guitar. It's hard to have a bad day when you're working on something like this!  The neck is also looking great, here is the redwood burl backstrap.

This is Pale Moon Ebony back and sides, Sitka top, Mahogany neck, Ebony fingerboard, Katalox bridge, Ebano bindings, Macassar Ebony rosette, arm bevel and head plate, bone nut and saddle.

Here is the demo I recorded of this guitar. The customer always tunes down a whole step (DGCFAD), so I built it with this in mind and it is tuned that way here.

A new build is underway! One of the goals of this build is to use all North American hardwoods. I obtained some beautiful Bostogne Walnut from a guy in Oregon a little while ago, here it is resawn, and brought down to thickness. A wipe with naptha gives us an idea of what it will look like finished:
 Following our North American theme, the kerfed linings are basswood, and the heel block and side supports are also walnut. Transmogrified into a guitar-shaped object:  The rosette will be Myrtlewood, also from Oregon. I cut four slices off of this turning blank:   Here it is before the purfling, in an Alaskan Sitka top:  For the fingerboard I have a beautiful piece of Pistachio from California. Pistachio is a super-hard wood, I may make the bridge from it as well:  Stay awesome everybody!
