Rick, at this rate mine will be done in 2-3 weeks. I’ll be looking for pics of 229 soon. I’m stressing out about shipping in the cold of winter.

Thanks for the comments guys. Really looking forward to this guitar.

I got a bonus photo today. This pic was on Fairbanks' FB page, so I stole it. Mine is the one closest to the camera. It looks like the others are Iris guitars. I had asked for a couple of cosmetic requirements. One was that the dark of the sunburst be a little deeper from the edges and I believe this was done perfectly. Man, I'm digging it!

This is simplifying things, but install tuners, bridge, make a saddle and nut, and this guitar is on its way to me!

Can you tell I’m excited?

Well Paul, when things finally settle down, Burlington VT is just a wee bit of a ride from MA!

Yep, I’m afraid so. I’ve already sent Dale a couple of questions. The force is strong!

The finished Fairbanks F35 arrived 1-21-21. That was a Thursday. The weather wasn't too bad, but I left it boxed up until the next morning. I gave it a quick once over before heading to work Friday morning. After work on Friday I installed Martin Retro (MM12) strings that usually work great, to my ears, on this type of guitar. They sound awful when new so I played it a couple of hours and put it away. Saturday morning and first thing I did was pull it out...

Oh my!! What a fantastic sound coming from this instrument. Not a dead note to be found which can't be said of other instruments like this I've owned. I don't play real hard, I'm more of the singer/songwriter type, but it seems to handle strong strumming without a problem. The occasional accent strum closer to the bridge doesn't bother it. I'm really happy with tone and the playing attributes this guitar has.

The neck isn't as full as a Kopp but nice nonetheless. Of course the fantastic sunburst on that 3 non scalloped tonebar body.

Weight: 4lbs, 0.3oz !!!

Can't wait for a year to go by to hear it then! I have a feeling it will change a bit by fall.

Pics show the Fairbanks (on the right) beside my Collings CJ-35G and '44 J-45.

Thanks for following the build!

Dave - Congratulations on the birth of your new Fairbanks! (Weight 4lbs 3 oz.)

As you know, I’m anxiously awaiting #228, the Fairbanks “Fox”. I’ve received ultrasound last June, but that was seven months ago. She’s grown a bit since then, but Doctor Dale never calculated a due date.

Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

Rick

Stunningly beautiful. Congratulations! Be still my heart!

Thank you for sharing it with us. I do hope that you'll post a recording or three.

Again, thanks.
