Default Escape from Shingle Mill Creek

Hello folks!

This is an original, which I’m calling “Escape from Shingle Mill Creek”, played on my Seagull Coastline Cedar 12. I got the idea of playing my 12 string in DADGAD from islandguitar (thanks Fred!). Thanks so much in advance for listening, and for any comments, feedback or suggestions!

Larry, that was awesome!! Some great licks in there...... and a bit of Al Petteway surfacing, for sure.
The Seagull sounds great......this tune is a "keeper"!

Glad this worked in that tuning.....it really does offer some major changes.....and fun!
Fred

Thanks for sharing. Not many 12 string guitar posts. Good to hear one now and then.

Wow, Larry!

That was very cool! What a great sound coming out of that guitar in DADGAD! Very nice little tune and as Fred notes, some very cool licks mixed in there.

Your piece makes a good ad for Seagull 12 strings, because that sounds really good!

Thanks Fred! I appreciate the Al Petteway comment - I know him from the Dream Guitars videos. I’ll have to spend some time with his music.

You did a recording a few months back with your 12 string guitar in DADGAD that I enjoyed so much. This Seagull sounds much better in lowered tunings - I’m leaving it in DADGAD for the time being.

Thanks for commenting and for your encouragement!

Thanks Glenn! I bought this Seagull a few months ago. It is my first 12 string and I’m really just learning how to use it. I find that it sounds much better to me in lowered tunings. I always appreciate your comments and support here!

Outstanding, Larry! I thoroughly enjoyed that. Nice tune... it kept my interest and kept me wondering where you going next and then delighted when I got there. Excellent use of dynamics... I loved the mixture of fingerstyle with a little strumming and some very rhythmic little licks. Absolutely excellent! Thanks...

Listened again this a.m., Larry.....love it. This is the kind of tune that would accompany a movie trailer or something similar. Don't lose this one.....I think it's that good and might yield some commercial success for you if you ever wanted to explore that.
Thanks again!
Fred

Thanks Kerbie! This was definitely new territory for me musically, and its heartening to get good feedback. I always appreciate your comments

Quick story about the title - I used to own a home with a shallow creek in the backyard that ran into a river a couple hundred yards downstream. Occasionally during a heavy rain when the creek would rise, a trout would make a wrong turn and end up trapped in the creek when the water receded. They could live there for weeks, hiding between rocks and eating insects (there was always some water flowing). When the next rain would come, they could “escape” over the rocks and back to the river.

Thanks Lenny! I’ve got the 12 string bug now - just ordered some heavier strings so I can explore even lower tunings. Fun...
