Default Go find another one...

If you're in the market for a dead-mint, never-used/never-sold hollowbody from the Golden Age of electric guitar design but don't want to sell Grandma to get it, at $6500 this '59 PAF Gretsch 6124 should do the trick:

https://reverb.com/item/68553041-gre...1959-archtop-w

Makes a great plugged-in gigging jazzbox, in the mold of some 16" Sadowsky and Benedetto models, with a sweet acoustic archtop tone (thanks to the lightweight body woods) good for home practice or recording - even more so if you replace the Space Control roller unit with a traditional wooden bridge - and that original factory SSC (complete with never-used case candy) just oozes '50s cool...

Just dug my old man’s out the other day. Didn’t realize the pickup was special.

Wow! That is really something there. I'd love to be the first one in 60 years to plug that puppy in. And it comes with it's own pitch pipe too!

Master volume on the cutaway, 3-way tone switch (two different caps in the up/down positions - TMK the values varied depending on when the guitar was produced and which pickup was used - and wide open in the center) on the upper bout, with nothing to impede the critical vibrating area of the top - loud enough to function as a recording or practice/jamming instrument with period-correct 12's or 13's (probably sound even better with a wooden bridge), and IMO all single built-in pickup jazzboxes should be made this way. FYI I could've had one just like it (except with the silver-grey Gretsch HSC) as NOS for $125 when I bought my Double Annie at Silver & Horland in 1964, but I wanted the two-pickup version which they only had in the infamous two-tone puke green ($150 NOS w/HSC) - ugly then, ugly now , might've learned to live with the color had I realized it was in all other respects a '59 6120...

Except the reverb ad from your link says $12,800.

Um, yeah - it was originally $12,800, and when I posted they had in fact dropped it to $6500, a far more realistic price IMO...

Been sitting on reverb for 6 months with no takers and no offers: be patient, hang in there until they drop the price to $5000 in desperation, and jump on it when they do - unless of course either Randy Bachman or Fred Gretsch himself beats you to it...
