What I find interesting is even though guitar prices (especially used) are going up, we're seeing more budget brands putting out some fantastic low priced options.

As mentioned above, Martins and even Gibsons can often be bought for 40% off list. But, if you don't know the list how can you figure what 40% would be?
I think MAP is 20% off retail list but again, how would you know?

People have heard through the grapevine, in other words the internet, that there is a shortage of guitars. So they think that they are going to cash in on it. But what people are asking and what they are settling for are two different things.

Martin has the list price of every standard model on their website. You are mostly correct about MAP being about 20% off list.
