Dickie Betts killin it on an Alvarez by Yairi
I'm a Yairi fan and just found this video yesterday. Have loved the song forever. It's a great video I love the old southern rock style of multiple layered guitars live. Had no idea DB played a Yairi. Here's a guy that can play whatever he wants whether they're given to him or not. You can clearly see the headstock logo in a few shots. I just thought it was super cool. Hope you enjoy.

Acoustic Melissa is on our band set list. We messed briefly with the dual licks but since we only have 2 guitars the sound washes out when we are both playing solos so we abandoned it. So the solo is my weak attempt to sound like Dickie Betts. It's a great song and is always a crowd favorite.

My partner and I perform this. I'm the rhythm player, but my partner is a really good lead player and can rip Dickie Betts's part really well. Not quite the impact as with double lead, but we always get a lot of compliments on it.
On another note, we start a two song "smash-together" doing Bread's "Make it with You", and then go right into Melissa.

I do too. I was watching Stevie Ray Vaughan over the weekend and couldn't help but think about Duane. Died 49 years ago this month. Hard to believe.

Great post !
Oh this is absolutely a fantastic song. I enjoyed the heck out of it. I love the ABB, no matter who was playing in the band from the late 60's all the way thru 2014. They had it all. Edcmat - You should check out the acoustic version of "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed". You can find it on you tube. |

Another Yairi fan. Not sure what DB is playing. Dark top, bound neck.

The shape of the headstock would date it to pre-79. Pretty sure the video is mid to late 90s. By the fret board inlay it's most likely a DY74, 77 or 78.
