In my limited experience, I prefer to keep both mics the same distance from the guitar. You have to experiment with mic placement, both in relation to the guitar and where you place them in the room. I also try to strike a balance between close micing to get a good level and minimize noise and room reflections, and having the mics back far enough to capture some of the guitar's bloom and air.
If the mics end up being too close to the guitar, where you get bass build up and muddiness from the mic's proximity effect, this is very easy to fix in post with a good quality EQ.
