Can't recommend this enough. I practice between 2-6 hours a day in it.

I use a drummers stool - Roc Soc I believe is the brand name. I got one without a back but they have them with a back to rest against if you would prefer that - very heavy duty chrome frame, solid and very stable. The other thing I use at my counter with the laptop & mixer is an armless high bar stool with a back - the counter I built is a stand-up height, so the bar stool is perfect and not terribly expensive.

I posted a link to that Ironton chair from Northern Tool some months ago. I got mine on sale for $49.

If you're not in a grave hurry...........wait. It's a REAL steal for $49.

The most comfortable chair I've found for playing is the Soundseat, which is not inexpensive. Well worth it to me, but not cheap. The second most comfortable is just a basic Guitar stool, like you'd find in any music store. Top is about two feet off the ground, with a footrail about halfway down. I use a Soundseat at home, and a basic stool for the three months per years we stay in a rental place down south in the winter. Before I got the Soundseat early last year, the stool was all I used.

I've tried all manner of other backed chairs, footstools, etc, and nothing has been more comfortable to me than a basic guitar stool other than the much more expensive Soundseat...

You're over halfway to a soundseat at that price. Hard to beat one of those.

Like Ray said, they're just worth it. Could be the most used guitar-related object I own.

What you expect to see as a stool with back in a doctor's exam room

I'm glad to see that many of you opted for simply folding chairs that help you sit with a straight back, and with your upper legs (thigh?) horizontal.

Then, all you need is to learn to drop your right shoulder.

Got one of these at Costco that I like (not sold in pairs at the actual store).

When my body was young it didn't much matter. Kitchen chair, folding chair, armless office chair, cheaply padded stool. They all worked. Now I'm a bit more picky. My favorite, primary seat when working on recording, performing tracks, or practicing is a Roc-n-Soc drum throne. It swivels (good when you need to reach for a guitar), the "tractor seat" it has cutouts so that your thighs don't have pressure on them (and your legs are free for wah pedal use or JL Hooker stomps), and the padding is very comfortable for hour after hour use.

They make a "bar stool" height model too. Also more comfortable that most thinly padded stools.
