I can attest to the pear guitar you had at Woodstock. It was one of the top 5 I have ever played (and none of which I have owned). Just perfect tonally in every way!

My last two builds were American Red spruce that I thought visibly indistinguishable from the best EuroSpruce; fantastic material. This one will be the actual best EuroSpruce. I have chosen a set of the Polish EuroSpruce I have used on two great builds in the last year, a BRW OM made in the Schoenberg way, and the BRW "Couch Noodler" I still have available here in the shop.

The pear back has been joined and cut out oversize, as is my way. It is relatively pale after being surfaced, but will be returned to a higher level of "richness" in the finishing process:

A bit over 10 (15?) years ago I built a nylon strung guitar for Duck Baker, a well know player at the time, and probably still. He played it for many years until it was stolen. I had imagined him having one of my guitars would be great for business, but he didn't talk about it much and I didn't do any advertising around it. In fact there was little evidence that it had even happened. Then this week I got an email promotion from John Mello, another builder of my acquaintance, for a tune Duck had played on one of Mello's guitar at a local concert, and this picture of Duck with my guitar was included in the email:

Although I am not known as a nylon maker, I made several before Duck's, and I have made twice as many since. The recent Madrone guitar I featured in this thread has developed nicely and I am playing it quite a bit. It is for sale, like all of my guitars I own.

The pear guitar is almost ready to close. Here is the Title Block and the now familiar Giraffe ribbons:

The Pear JB-15 body is closed and I have completed the binding. One of the scales I use to judge my work, my progress as a craftsman, is the accuracy of my mitered purflings. These are hand cut by eye, and it is quick but I only get one chance to be right per miter, and generally have to take what I get. This guitar may be the first EVER to get all 11 miters my idea of right. While not actually beyond criticism, I hope to do it as well again soon.

The recent Myrtle guitar came out beyond my wildest expectation. I love it when that happens, though it raises the bar high enough to be more than merely challenging. On the off chance that it had something to do with the Myrtle itself, I looked around for another set. There is plenty of myrtle out there, but I require it to be quartersawn, straight grained, AND stunning. To quote Siri, "Here's what I found":

The figure is as intense as any Koa I've had, and meets all my criteria.

Looking around the Gilmer Wood site, I found they still have some Pear. I think that's where I got the set I'm using at the moment, so I put the best set I saw in the cart as well. They arrived an hour ago.

After taking the above picture, and as I was walking away, I noticed that at another angle a pattern showed up I hadn't seen. I hope I live long enough to use this set!

Bruce I think I see a pear in that pear back. Both the pear and myrtle sets look fabulous and very tempting!
