Thanks Will - I met Bill in person the first time in the summer of '09 when he displayed a few instruments at a concert I played with Jim Tozier. If someone had told me then I'd have two of his instruments I would have fallen over laughing. Thanks in large part to the kind folks on the forum

Ok - here's a better bearclaw pic -
Spent some time this morning dialing in the setup and intonation and it's about 99% of the way there. I also spent some time A/B/C ing my three steel strings (playing up against the wall for optimum sound!) with fresh strings and I've decided I'm a very spoiled boy

It's a stunning guitar, Todd. The top is gorgeous.
I hope we'll hear you perform a few songs with it. Congratulations! |

This is a fantastic looking instrument and I congratulate you on it for sure! The top is really awesome with that great bear claw...
I am still blown away, actually confused, as to how this could all be done in 11 days including the finish. Other builds typically take 6 weeks on the low side and involve curing of the finish for a couple of weeks as well as letting the guitar sit around the shop for a week to let it settle in and be reset as needed. Can you help me out with how Charis is able to get past these seemingly standard procedures and deliver this to you in 11 days. I am fascinated by this. Thanks for the info. Tom

I guess I can't answer that, except for the fact that Bill is a full time builder and when he starts, he just keeps going. I'm sure there were some 11-12 hour days or more. Being a former career mechanical engineer (and a very good one) he has developed a lot of his own tools and jigs that allow him to build more quickly and more precisely. As far as the finish, not sure how that happens so quickly, but it's nothing short of fabulous in person! Now that I'm thinking about it, I believe he had the top and back joined already on that Monday, so it may have been 11 1/2 days He may not have let it out to someone distant before it settled in, but I'm 15 miles away and visit the shop often, so he knows it won't be a big deal if something (that I can't handle myself) needs to be tweaked.
