Default I'm in luv, Martin D Jr

This week I received my new baby the Martin Dreadnaught Junior, "D Jr".

I ADORE it!
Took it in first thing for a set-up, as the action was a little high for my arthritic old, fat, lathe operating hands.
Asked them to leave the Martin strings on it.

They didn't change it much but it plays GREAT! It makes me want to play, it makes me WANT to attempt things I always tried to avoid. (Barre chords for instance)

I can barre this guitar pretty easily now right up the neck.
Am able to get the harmonics to chime very easily.
Moving fingers around in various easy chord positions seems not only doable, but it makes me want to do it.

The guitar I'd bought previously, the extremely highly rated and almost universally praised Yamaha FS830 is just nowhere near as playable.
Maybe because the nut on the Yam is pretty much narrower.

I will sell the Yam now, and I know some thin-fingered (or heck maybe just some NORMAL fingered) person will love it and treasure it as I now treasure the D Jr.

Big, big difference for me. Is it a fancy Martin? is it a collectible Martin? is it a household name Martin (like the D-28, say)?? Noooooo, but I sure do love it.

Not putting the Yamaha down, it is a beautifully crafted guitar which rings out beautifully - and the rosewood 830 model I have is actually way more beautiful than the Martin, which is a tad homely but handsome, with it's "matte" finish, no binding on back, etc.

The Yam is the guitar for someone, but not for me.

And the D Jr is clearly for me. CLEARLY!!!!

ok time to go noodle around some more.

Charming little guitars for sure. I own a D Jr. 2 and have had it for a little over 2 years now. Try it with Retro strings and buckle in.

Yes. The Dread Junior 1 and 2 are very impressive guitars for its price. One of the best value for money guitars. Mine is all Sapele and it produces a warm tone with slightly more overtones than an all Mahogany guitar. I’ve owned it for about a year and a half.

Is your new Dr Jr the latest model with a slimmer body depth?

Enjoy playing your new guitar...

Congrats! I have guitars that cost much more in relative terms, my Martin D Jr is a very enjoyable guitar. A keeper.

I'd suggest giving it a couple of weeks before you make a decision. You might warm up to it.
