Default High end guitar: What song should you be capable of

This is a completely subjective question. I would like to know what song do you feel YOU should be able to play and play well, from beginning to end, before the purchase of a high end guitar makes sense, TO YOU.

NOTE: We’re not saying who can and can’t spend their own money. We’re simply asking ourselves, is there a song that would make me feel like, “ok, I’m in that league.”

So let’s say a $5000 guitar from Huss & Dalton, Bourgeois or Collings.

Please provide name of song and which version (if performed by more than one guitarist).

A decent rendition of James Taylor's, "Fire and Rain".

I have no idea why I said that, it's just what popped into my head.

Sorry, but the only requirement that is needed to buy a $5000 guitar is that your check will clear.

Baa Baa Black Sheep

Seriously though, I don’t think it’s fair to dictate what skill level a person should be at to buy a guitar if they play and enjoy it.

Who said you need to ace a proficiency test before you can buy a guitar you love and can afford? Thankfully there was no such thing at any shop I’ve purchased from…otherwise I’d still be playing a kazoo.

Some of the worst guitarists I've seen such as on YouTube, have $5000+ guitars, and by far the best guitarists I've seen (non professional) have only had cheap guitars under a thousand. So, I think if you don't know how to play but are buying a guitar to learn on and you've got money and buy a $5000 guitar, all the power to you lol.

I’m an admittedly very amateur guitarist (possibly even crap by some standards) but I love songwriting and having a good guitar aids in that process. Who’s to say I can’t have nice things?

If skill level dictated the amount of money a person should spend on a guitar, I should’ve started with a $5 guitar found at a rummage sale. 🤪
